We offer the following visitor packages at JNR. Payments can be made online, at your hotel or at the gate.

01. Reserve Entry

If you are familiar with JNR and with walking in the Himalayas, you can visit the Reserve on your own (between the hours of sunrise and sunset only). After registering and getting an entry ticket, you can explore the Reserve by yourself. You can walk around the many trails, depending on the season and the time you have available. We will provide a trail map and trail guides as part of this package. While the Reserve and the trails are safe, please take adequate care while walking as there are areas which are a little steep and rocky. Make sure that you keep the JNR number and leave your number with one of the team members at the gate. Once you have entered the Reserve, you can stay as long as you like, provided you follow the rules.

The cost for entry is Rs 450 per adult (including GST). Children below 10 years will be charged 50%. No charge for infants.


02. Expert Guided Walk

We offer expert guided walks throughout the year for visitors who would like to learn more about the flora and fauna of the Reserve. You will have the opportunity to see for yourself the wildlife using the trails you are walking on through our hidden cameras, learn to identify birds through their calls and learn about animal behavior and plant uses. We will provide equipment/accessories depending on the season, including binoculars, umbrellas, walking sticks and leech socks. In addition, you will get a map and trail guide as well as pocket field guides to help identify flowers, trees, and mushrooms of the Reserve. Tea/coffee is included at the end of these walks.

The cost for the expert guided walk is Rs 1,000 per Adult (for one person/one guide); Rs 700 per adult (for groups of 2-10 people and two guides); Rs. 600 per adult (for groups of 10-20 people and three guides). For groups of more than 20 people, please call and discuss the rates with us. Please note that for groups of 10 people and above, we might need to break up the group to reduce footfall and enhance the experience. Children below 10 years will be charged 50%. No charge for infants. All prices are inclusive of GST. Please call in advance to book the walks and be at the JNR gate at the time agreed with the guide.


03. Special Walks

From time to time, JNR organises special walks with different experts. They can range from birdwatching, butterfly and moth identification to nature photography and nature writing. Watch out for these announcements through our mailers or Facebook and Instagram updates. These walks are free of cost for JNR members and cost Rs. 800 per person for non-members.


04. Tailored Walk

We can organise longer, tailored walks for groups interested in tougher and more adventurous hikes or those interested in mixing nature with culture. These include day-long hikes to lesser-visited parts of the Reserve as well as full-day hikes/treks that will enable you to explore the surrounding hills, forests and villages. Please get in touch with us to design these walks/treks for you.

Start - Embarking from the elevated starting point of Jabarkhet at around 2120 meters (6955 ft.), our journey commences with a descent towards the charming Kolti village. The hike down to Kolti takes approximately 2-3 hours, offering glimpses of diverse Himalayan forests teeming with Oak, Deodar, Rhododendron, and Pine trees. As we traverse through village landscapes, we’ll be greeted by picturesque farming fields enveloped by lush grasslands and towering mountains.

Mid - Upon reaching Kolti village, nestled at an elevation of around 1550 meters (5085 ft.), a warm lunch awaits us in one of the village homes, replenishing our energy for the next leg of our adventure. Following our meal, we embark on an ascent towards Landour, where the scenery transforms to reveal a mesmerizing water stream meandering through a lush forest in the valley below. This uphill trek to Landour, spanning 3-4 hours, presents a challenging endeavor, as we ascend 600 meters (1968 ft.) amidst steep gradients, requiring endurance and resilience.

End - Our hike culminates at the tranquil Landour Cemetery, situated at an elevation of 2160 meters (7086 ft.), offering a serene vista and a moment of reflection amidst the natural splendour of the Himalayas, on a clear day you can also see the Greater Himalayas of Uttarakhand Garhwal Region.

2. Kanda Jakh Village Hike

Guide - Once your booking is confirmed, a certified guide equipped with wilderness first-aid training, and basic flora and fauna knowledge will accompany you on the hike. Rest assured, you’ll have expert guidance and support throughout your journey, ensuring a safe and enriching experience amidst the wilderness. It requires a reasonable amount of fitness as it includes a 13 km, relatively gentle walk.

Start - Embarking from the elevated starting point of Bataghat, the journey commences with a descent towards the Kimoi village. The hike down to Kimoi takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, offering glimpses of diverse Himalayan forests teeming with Oak, Deodar, Rhododendron, Liyonia, and Dogwood trees. As we traverse through village landscapes, we’ll be greeted by picturesque farming fields enveloped by lush grasslands and towering mountains after taking a break and a short briefing about Kimoi Village groups will leave for Kanda Jakh.

Mid - After hiking 2-3 hours from Kimoi, we reach Kanda Jakh, nestled in a beautiful open meadow area surrounded by tall Deodar trees. In the middle of this place, there is a beautiful old traditional temple of Lord Jakh Devta. That’s why the place is also called Jakh. As the place is still far away from the road head, it is less crowded and very peaceful, as only dedicated hikers come to this area. It’s a great place to do some meditation, stretching, or yoga; those who want to can do so here for a while. A warm lunch awaits us, replenishing our energy for the next leg of our adventure. Following our meal, we embark towards the road head.

End - From here, the guided walk will continue down to the Agyarana Village in Aglar Valley, wheretransport will be waiting to bring them back to Mussoorie (a two-hour scenic drive). This walk is organized in collaboration with the Ecotourism Committee of Kanda village and part of the cost of the walk will go to them.
